AI Monitors Workplace Safety in Real Time - Microsoft Offers a Glimpse into the Future of EHS

At the Microsoft Build conference in Seattle this past May, Microsoft representatives presented a demo of artificial intelligence (AI) that could track workplace safety in real time. The technology was built using a combination of Microsoft Azure Stack, Azure functions, Cognitive Services and commodity cameras. Among other uses, the technology presented in the demo was able to recognise a safety incident and automatically notify relevant personnel, as well as see potential safety hazards (such as a precariously placed saw) before an incident occurred and notify personnel to fix the issues. Technology like this has the potential to revolutionise occupational safety and incident prevention worldwide, and the video below is the first glimpse into what a future of AI-driven safety programs could look like.
